OAC Team Triumpher

When I started with Team Triumph I had been working out pretty much all of my adult life. Physical activity has always been a great outlet for me.

In 1978 I set my sights on running my first marathon- The Washington DC Marine Corps. Two more marathons followed in Montreal until I met my goal of breaking 4 hours, in the spring of 1981. It was at that time I discovered Triathlon, feeling it was a more balanced approach to training.

When I first signed up with Team Triumph, during the fall of 2009, I was looking for a good coach to help me train for Iron Man Canada (in August 2010). Julia constructed a dedicated training program for me. What I found, in addition to great coaching, were a group of lovely women whose company I thoroughly enjoyed. workouts continue to be seriously engrossing but so is the camaraderie and upbeat spirit of the people of Team Triumph. I am blessed to have very close friendships because of Team Triumph!

The 3 years of St George, Utah Training Camp held each year in April have always been a highlight of the year for me, as the Team manages to mix so much activity into each day. I am always thrilled to go from one sport to another, all day long!

A great joy of being fit over all these years is the many special activities I have participated in with my now grown-up children and with husband Andy. Our favorite vacations always involve 2 wheels and we have biked around Hawaii’s Big Island, the Crater Lake region in Oregon, Death Valley, Palm Springs, and New Zealand. In July 2012, we travelled to Whitefish, Montana with our 2 youngest, Naomi and Aaron biking north into the Canadian Rockies to Jasper. Special times have also included a number of Rideau Lakes Tour to Kingston and back with my son Josh and daughter Naomi. Our daughter Sarah has told Andy and me how she never has to contemplate whether we can complete the hikes she picks for us when visiting the west coast.

Behind these successes is a meaningful relationship with coach Julia who helps keep me at my (personal) best without overdoing it (my challenge). Julia always consults with me valuing my input for which I am grateful.

As a Team we travelled to Finger Lakes in 2017 where members competed in triathlons of varying lengths over 2 days. In this way, we collegially decide on our own goals and fitness path. Team Triumph is at the heart of what makes all my exercise plans so much fun!
